Gameplay, Genre, and the Brigandine Series
These answers stay with official publisher copy. Comparisons to Fire Emblem or older Brigandine games are labeled as searcher questions, not as claims the developer printed.
What is BRIGANDINE ABYSS gameplay?
You command leaders and monster squads across a continent war. Between battles you organize troops and resources, issue attacks on enemy strongholds, then resolve fights on a hexagonal grid. Positioning, affinities, skills, terrain, and stronghold upgrades all matter. Story Mode follows six nations against the Neo Abyssloa Empire; Mission Mode gives 24 nations their own win conditions.
For the named nations, read Factions and Game Modes. For Class Change and Support, read Classes and Class Change.

Is it a sequel, and must I play the previous games?
It is a new entry in the Brigandine series. NIS America describes a completely unique world that unfamiliar players can start. You do not need The Legend of Runersia or older titles to follow Story Mode.
Mission Mode is described as the more classic Brigandine experience: pick one of 24 nations and chase that nation’s objective. That is a mode choice inside Abyss, not a requirement to finish an older game first.
Is it similar to Fire Emblem?
People search that comparison because both are turn-based strategy RPGs. The official description is a war simulation and strategy RPG with monster squads, strongholds, and hexagonal battles. This site does not treat Fire Emblem as an official genre, crossover, or licensed comparison.
